Wednesday's Word - Where do kids get these crazy ideas?

This week's word starts with 'The Shema' (pronounced Shuh-'Ma)
Deuteronomy 6:4
The four Hebrew words "YHVH eloheinu YHVH ehad" literally mean "YHVH our God YHVH one." but focuses on verse 7

Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: 5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. 6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: 7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

For us older heads.....remember when we saw Michael Jackson do the
moonwalk on Motown's 25th anniversay special, and that's pretty much all
we talked about and tried to imitate at school the next day?.....yeah, I
know; embarrassing to remember, but kids are still pretty much the same
way today, only they're not talking about and imitating simple dance
moves. They're influenced by a steady stream of darker themes.

(Not a suggestion, just info in support of the topic) A guy named Doug
Copeland wrote a book called 'Life after God' about the first generation
to grow up with absolutely 'no knowledge' of God. Point is, it's such a
dis-service to that generation because of all those internal questions
that recieve no answer. Our hearts were made to beat according to God's
good pleasure and nothing else will do.

A recent poll of children as to what is the best and worst things in life,
has produced some 'telling' results; see here. The best and the worst things
(in order)

**** BEST*****
1. Being a Celebrity 2. Good Looks 3. Being Rich
4. Being Healthy 5. Pop Music 6. Families
7. Friends 8. Nice Food 9.Watching Films
10. Heaven/God

****WORST*****

1. Killing People 2. Wars 3. Drunk People 4. Bullies
5. Illness 6. Smoking 7. Stealing 8. Divorce
9. Being Fat 10. Dying

Looks like the babysitter's raising the children....you know the
babysitter, some refer to it as the television or maybe just by some
people not standing up for the God they know.

Heaven aint Fair

Hello all,
Thanks for the encouraging responses from last week's "Word".

Believe it or not but today's word stem from a converstion I had this morning with Kiara. It all boils down to this question; 'How do we, in our lives, define fairness?' or more to the point, how do we react when life seems 'unfair'?

Here's the Word; Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

God wasn't 'fair' with us....He was 'Merciful'. Heaven is not fair payment for living life as Christians, God's Grace and Mercy go far beyond what could be considered 'fairness';

Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. - Now that's fair, are YOU being fair?

I'm sure the point is clear. As 'examples of Christ like-ness', seek righteousness, deal with all people in like manner. Please look at Luke 6:27 - 36 and don't get all bent out of shape when your treated 'unfairly'. God Himself is treating you unfairly, and it's the most wonderful thing you can imagine.

Skipping Rope

Hello all,
There's a story in the Bible that scares most people who know about it; It's
Jesus telling these 'supposed' devout believers "Depart from me you workers of iniquity, I never knew you."
Reading this account in Matt 7:23 you have to realize, these guys must have missed something.
This is my point; We pray....right? In 1 Peter 3:7 the Word instructs
husbands how to deal with wives with the expressed consequence of 'that
your prayers be not hindered.' You'd have to be a bit naive to think that
only husbands can have their prayers hindered because of disobedience
in regards to how they treat their wives.
So what if you had issue with God the Son, stating "You said if I
asked anything in your Name, you would do it....I asked for
...blah....blah....and I never got an answer." His reply being...."I never
heard that prayer". Would you think to realize that maybe 'YOU' were the
reason your prayer wasn't heard and answered?
I covet prayers intently; and it seems that in this world if there was indeed a time to pray it's now: James 5:16(b) says 'The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.'
So I'm sure I've exhausted this thing. You can pray from sun up to sundown, but if you aren't considering the state of your own obedience, you might just as well be skipping rope.
It's not quantity....it's quality.

I love you all. Pray 'effectively' for me,
Cros
