Wednesday's Word - Cliff Diving
What if the purpose is Cliff diving? Have you ever had that feeling of exhilaration as you watch a cliff diver push off into the air and begin to twist and contort and control his body so beautifully; bringing it into perfect alignment before entering the water? That feeling of fearless freedom as his confidence and ability are displayed against the breath-taking backdrop of jagged rocks and churning turquoise water.
So what if the purpose is cliff diving? Many of us start off by dipping our big toe into the shallow waves washing up on the shore. Our mind begins to race as our body begins to shiver at the very idea of “Brrrrrrrrrr…….cold!!!” Sadly, only a comparative few dare go further: Far enough to safely dive under crashing waves as onlookers smile in admiration.
But what if the purpose is cliff diving? Then the whole idea of a day at the beach must be challenged. Blankets and radios, sunscreen and snacks, profiling and people-watching, chasing and being chased by waves…. All kids stuff. We gotta look up to those lofty heights and dare to climb. And once there, we have to muster the courage to push off; over and over again, training our mind and body to overcome the roar of the waves crashing below.
Here’s the Word
1 Corithians 2:9-10 9But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. 10But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God
I don’t mean to make any of this sound easy. Heck! I could be dead wrong. But what if sitting on the sidelines, soaking up the sun doesn’t afford us the deep things of God. We need embrace something different than the “Christianity status quo”? When I look around I tend to get the feeling that the deep things of God might be less about lying in the sun and more about cliff diving.
