Wednesday's Word - Room for One, More

Hello All,
You know, I’m sure that I love a good quote just as much as the next guy and no matter how difficult it may be to trace a quote’s origins, its really the words that stand the test of time, right? Take this familiar quote: “Those who forget the past are destined to repeat it.” It makes sense and its meaning apparent. But really, how true is it? I think even if we REMEMBER the past, we can seem just as destined to repeat it.

For ‘Biblical’ instance:

After being warned of his pride a year earlier by Daniel, King Nebuchadnezzar doesn't heed the warning.

Daniel 4:30 The king spake, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty?
At his peak, King Nebuchadnezzar loses his mind and his kingdom. After this, his son King Belshazzar, who obviously knew the story…this is what’s said of him;
Daniel 5:22 And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart, though thou knewest all this;

These two kings were removed from their thrones and their kingdoms were given to another.

Here’s the Word:

Isaiah 42:8 I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.

Now it seems today, with America trying again to make a name for itself, that we be reminded of the Tower of Babel. Human pride, even today with our vast knowledge and resources, combined with the 20/20 hindsight of Scripture and a myriad of other historical examples seems destined to continue to set men on The Throne: That we will direct our own way and recoup all of the glory for ourselves. And although our Heavenly Father is More: More patient, More loving, More forgiving and More merciful, we have to make sure we don’t repeat the past by scooting Him out of the way and off of His Throne. It’s His Throne and there’s only room for One. The One who is MORE.

In Him,
Cros

Maybe they should restate that quote as "Those who choose to forget thepast....." Somehow, we have deceived ourselves into believing that ourcircumstances/problems are something NEW. But Solomon, who had theresources and the power to try any and everything, said that there isnothing new under the sun. Instead of doing a comparative shopping ofapproaches (God or World) to take in any given situation, we decide tohave it our way. In essence this is antichrist behavior. We have madeourselves God.
