Girlfriend

I know the title seems a little provocative and borderline blasphemous, but bear with me:

If God were your girlfriend, an interesting subject
Could we tell you're in Love? Would you hold hands in public?

If God were your boyfriend, it seems an easy bet.
Remain silent, or be eager to tell folks how you two met?

Does your heart skip a beat, waiting anxiously for His touch
Or was that just in the early days, nowadays ...not so much.

Would He feel like He's your only, or competing for affections?
Could you explain where your attentions go, to clear up misconceptions?

If God were your girlfriend, would you take Him out on dates?
Or would He have to wait til Sunday, or as you pray before your plate?

If God were your boyfriend, the best you could find,
Would He know without asking, how much He crosses your mind?

Would He be waiting by the phone, wondering if you'll call?
Would He feel like He's imposing if He'd interrupt at all?

Could He say that without a doubt, He's your significant other
or would He think deep down inside, that you're longing of another?

If God were your girlfriend, would you buy Him gifts and stuff?
What kinds of things would you expect from Him, would His presence be enough?

If God were your boyfriend, would you let Him calm your fears?
Would you feel secure in His arms of love, as He dries your tears?

Would He value the relationship? Are there more questions than answers
Does He openly lead in the waltz of life, Or is He your private dancer?

If He saved your letters in a box, how full would this box be?
Or do you only call Him, when you find yourself in need?

None of us are perfect, but do we give reason for doubt
By what our actions say, and what we profess with our mouths.

Thing is, it takes two for intimacy, You can't be IN love alone.
Spending time and communicating, is how relationships are grown.

Of course, God isn't frail like us, that was not the idea.
But how much do we invest in Him, and expect our love to be clear?

Here's The Word:

Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

1 Corinthians 2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

1 Corinthians 8:3 But if any man love God, the same is known of him.

Matthew 10:37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

2 Thessalonians 3:5 And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ.

When it comes to our earthly relationships, we put a lot on the expression, but somehow with God, it seems like that's less of a concern. But when I read His word, I see God being very affected by our actions toward Him, or toward "things" that we express affections for above Him. God is not just writing a love story FOR you, He's writing one WITH you. Christ Himself lives in an anticipation that none of us can wrap our heads around. Yet we can get an idea of His expectation and the fulfillment He will find in His bride when His wedding day arrives. That's a clear and present part of His word just as important as our salvation and His eventual dispensation of eternal justice.

In Him,
Cros
